2010 Junior Bassmaster Eastern Division Championship

Candlewood Lake - Danbury, Connecticut - September 24, 2010
Ray Kerchal

Qualifiers for the Junior Bassmaster World Championship are determined by six divisional tournaments. In 2010, these divisional junior tournaments were held in conjunction with the adult divisional tournaments. Connecticut hosted the 2010 BASS Eastern Divisional held on Candlewood Lake in September in Danbury. The Bryan V. Kerchal Memorial Fund supported the juniors’ part of the eight state tournament with a grant of $2000.

I could not find any detailed write up of the tournament but did find a list of the final standings. Congratulations are due to Christopher Catucci of Warwick, RI (11-14 age group) and Alex Wetherell of Middletown, CT (15-18 age group) for winning championships. It is noteworthy that these two boys went on to become world champions in their respective age groups at the 2010 Junior Bassmaster World Championship - both champions from the same division in the same year!!!

The efforts of all state team alternates and designated boat captains for serving as Junior Bassmaster mentors and safety observers are appreciated and are recognized here:

Connecticut — Terry Baksay
Maine — Scott Robert
Massachusetts — Rick Wentworth
New Hampshire — John Huntley
New York — Tom Luciano
Ontario — Frank Ramsay
Rhode Island — Ronald Bestwick
Vermont — Skip Sjobeck

Note: See the web site section “2010 Junior Bassmaster World Championship” for photos of Christopher Catucci and Alex Wetherell.
